Winding Up- June 12, 2012

Dear Sexton Mt. Families:

Our third graders were practicing for a social studies performance early Monday morning.  Songs about the weather experienced by Lewis and Clark, hardships along the Oregon Trail, how Portland got it’s name and so much more certainly had important content embedded in brains!  In the past week, we’ve had a constant stream of guests as students have showcased their learning.  A Poetry Tea, Reader’s Theater, Field Day and other celebrations have us celebrating the hard work our students have put in throughout the year.

As I visit classrooms, I am careful to savor the present because so much will be changing next year.  Some of the changes we know about but some are still uncertain.  I wanted to remind you about the known changes.  Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Ferraro, Mrs. Ellison, and Ms. Cunningham will be retiring.  Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Jenkins, Ms. Duhrkoop and Mrs. Simmons have resigned their positions and are off to new adventures.  Mrs. P. Cook, Mrs. Swagel, Ms. Zaworski, Mrs. Parson, Mrs. Blood and Ms. Jaques are currently under temporary contract so their positions will be ending this week.  Mr. Mori and Mrs. Johnson’s positions have been eliminated so they will be placed somewhere in the District.  As I’ve mentioned before, it’s possible that other staff members will be transferred over the summer too, so Sexton Mountain will be very different next fall when we return.  I encourage you take a minute in the next day or two to write a note of appreciation to those who will be leaving.  The people in our school are what make it special.

Thanks to all who have worked to make our school such a special place this year.  We are lucky to have such a committed group of people!  I hope you have a summer full of building memories to last a lifetime!
