Dear Sexton Mt. Families:
I visited fifth grade classrooms recently as they were learning about economics. In one class, a visitor from the Port of Portland shared information about his job. In other classes, students discussed taxes. Our fifth graders will be going to BizTown next month. Students will run a small city. The will work, earn paychecks, pay taxes and more. Before the trip, they will interview for jobs, learn how to write checks and even elect a mayor. It is exciting to see students engaged in their work and curious about their world!
Our Parent Teacher Club provides support for experiences like BizTown for our students. These enriching opportunities, from field trips and family nights to Art Literacy, extend learning in a special way. We are lucky to have such amazing family support. This year, the PTC will also host a 5K and Community Expo so that our neighbors can learn about the exciting things happening at Sexton Mountain School and we can bring our community together for something fun. The Jog-a-thon and 5K will be held March 7 and 8 and volunteers are needed in order to make both successful.
Watching all the work that goes into preparing for BizTown or the energy and enthusiasm shown in planning for the first ever Sexton Mountain 5K and Community Expo, I am reminded of the importance of “WE”. Our children are successful because they have so many people working for their success. What our children learn from the hard working and dedicated adults in our building can’t be replicated! Thank you for all you do for our students!
Dr. Teresa Clemens-Brower

THANK YOU-We are so lucky to have an active and involved community willing to do special things for our kids. When we work together, our kids benefit.
§ Thanks to all who attended the PTC meeting Friday. There was a great turn out.
§ Thanks to all our math volunteers. Our students are becoming more fluent with math facts each week.
Wish List-These are things or jobs that make a difference to our kids, teachers or school. Send in items or let Mrs. CB know if you can volunteer.• There are several projects that can be assembled at home in preparation for Kindergarten Orientation. They are projects that can be sent home with a child in backpack mail. If you are able to do a project at home, please email Mrs. CB. • Donations of hand sanitizer will be put to good use in our computer lab. Please send donations of hand sanitizer to the office. • We would love to have volunteers to help with our Canfield (Senior Citizen) Lunch Buddies on the last Thursday of every month from 11:15-12:15 as they have lunch with our second and third graders. Contact Mrs. CB if you can lend a hand. • Mr. Miller would like tripods to mount ipads for students to use in PE. They are using really cool apps to analyze performance but 4 more tripods are needed in order to maximize these tools for kids. If you have a sturdy tripod to donate, please send it in. • Donations for our teachers’ donorschoose.org projects are still appreciated! • Staff will meet with teachers from several other schools on Monday, January 27 for Staff Development Day. If you would like to provide cheese sticks, bananas or apples for the staff, it will be appreciated. Because we will meet at Fir Grove, items should be delivered to Sexton Mt. by January 24 so they can be transported to early in the day on Monday. Please let Mrs. CB know if you plan to contribute.
