Dear Sexton Mt. Families:
After last week’s newsletter went out Deb told me I copied her slogan. Her family is also focused on finishing strong during these last few weeks of school! I would guess that many families are counting the days until vacation begins. We have many exciting things planned in the upcoming weeks! The big event this week is Family Literacy Night on June 2 from 5:30-6:30pm at the Beaverton City Library (Hall and 5th Street in Beaverton). Please bring your family and check out the range of resources available to enhance summer learning. The simple act of reading, then talking about what was read, builds vocabulary, content knowledge, thinking skills and perspective!
Please schedule regular visits so that children will maintain their reading stamina throughout the summer. Some families visit the library on Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings in conjunction with a visit to the Farmer’s Market. The music and produce provide great conversation starters for kids as well.
Students will also enjoy an extended time outside on Friday for Field Day. There will be a range of activities for students to enjoy on Friday, June 3. Thanks in advance to all the volunteers who will make this day special for our children. Students should:
(1) bring water bottle clearly labeled with their name
(2) wear shoes for moving and athletic-type clothing
(3) wear a hat if they’d like
Now that Allergy Season seems to be in full swing, some families are bringing in the over the counter medications and signing them into the office so that supplies are on hand when kids need it. Remember that all medications must be brought to school and signed in by an adult.
Our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration will be Friday, June 10. We rely heavily on our volunteers for a range of things. Students and staff will express appreciation for all you do. Please plan on joining us in the cafeteria from 2:00-3:00pm for special performances and treats.
During the month of June we will be doing a CEREAL drive to benefit the Sunshine Pantry. During the summer many children don’t get breakfast or lunch because schools are closed so local food pantries are called upon to support families. Students are invited to bring boxes of cereal to help address the need in our community. Other non-perishable food donations are welcome as well. From the simple act of giving a smile to giving in other ways, focusing on the needs of others helps our students grow.
Great things are happening at Sexton Mt. School. Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Community Volunteer Application
- After School Pick up—Please let the office know if BY 2:00pm if after school plans change or if someone not on your approved list will be picking up your child after school.
Wish List-These are things or jobs that make a difference to our kids, teachers, school and community. Send in items or let Mrs. CB know if you can volunteer.
- One more wagon is needed for a “lunch wagon” next year. If you have a wagon to donate to our school, know we will put it to good use.
- Volunteers are needed to help make information videos about school procedures. The short videos will be used as a teaching tool for new families and students. From parking lot routines to lunch procedures, we would love to create a useful library of visuals to make for a smooth transition in the fall. Contact Mrs. CB if you are interested in helping with this project or assisting our students as they make videos.
- Volunteers are needed to narrate movies students make about school procedures. We hope to have Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean options for those who will watch the videos. Contact Mrs. CB if you are interested in helping with this project or assisting our students as they make videos.
