Dear Sexton Mt. Families:
Did
your children get to spend time reading over the break? My family enjoyed time with one another and I
got to enjoy reading in a variety of places for a range of reasons. From gaining information to taking a mental
vacation, my break was better because of books.
The lives of those around me were also made better by books. Here is my great nephew Atticus already
enjoying time in text!
Now
that April is here we are in full swing as we work to finish strong. We will continue to use every minute to
maximize learning! Students with a home language in addition to
English are taking language proficiency tests this month. In May, students in third, fourth and fifth
grades will begin the statewide assessments.
When our students show up and give it their best every school day, they
will be prepared to SHINE. The skills
and habits of mind students learn in kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd
grade and beyond, prepare them to think
critically and creatively, communicate clearly and to work hard on
non-preferred tasks. You can see sample
tests of the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) and Reading, Math,
and Science sample tests at this website.

Thank
you for sharing your children with us!
Sincerely,
Teresa Clemens-Brower, Ed. D.
Principal

Thanks for keeping the office informed of any updated contact
information.
·
All medication (including cough drops) must be signed in to the

·
Because of the restoration of instructional time due to winter
weather, Spring report cards were sent home
on March 24. Spring conferences have
been eliminated. Parents
should direct questions and inquiries to their teachers via email or phone
call.
·
Our community comes together in times of great
need! During the snowstorms this winter,
neighbors helped neighbors get kids home safely. On Friday when a bus didn’t come, neighbors
helped make sure that all children made it to school. The
Planting Seeds group has made sure that our families in need are getting
extra support with food and items for the home. This sense of community flows into the
classroom. Thank you for teaching children that together we are better!
